Y Club Take On The Manchester Marathon

19th April 2016

On Sunday 10th November 15 intrepid runners tackled the Manchester Marathon on behalf of our YMCA Manchester Youth and Community Team.

Runners included Y Club members Dave and Sam, YMCA Harriers president Steve, Maya our fitness instructor, James our resident Being-Well Salford Coach, John our fundraiser, Shane the hotel manager, and Mike our CEO.

The day had some notable success stories with Maya competing her marathon in 3hours 30 minutes, Shane achieving his target of less than 5 hours in his first marathon, and Mike and John completing their relay in 4 hours 15 minutes, with John only returning from a broken foot the week before.

Perhaps the biggest winner though was our YMCA Manchester ‘Inspiring Futures’ Project for which we raised over £900. The project has been invaluable in providing support to young carers aged 16 – 24 who are not accessing education, employment or training, and you will hear a lot more about its work over the course of the year.

The Marathon is just the start of YMCA Manchester’s annual events calendar. Next up is the Salford Dragon Boat race on May 8th, followed by YMCA Manchester’s 170th Birthday celebrations on June 25th, and the inaugural Manchester half Marathon on October 16th. If you are interested in obtaining a charity place on any of these events and helping us raise funds for our community projects then please contact johnb@yclub.org.uk.DSC00211 (1)
