At the Y Club we offer many styles of Martial Arts Classes. Maybe you are looking for something a little different from the conventional exercise class. Whether you are looking to improve general fitness, try something for fun or maybe even compete, the Y Club has various classes available to you.
Free Style Martial Arts: The free style martial arts class is a combination of all styles. A very practical, effective and realistic self defence system. The class caters for any ability and fitness level. If you have trained in martial arts before or are a complete beginner you will both benefit from and learn from this system whilst improving your fitness at the same time.
Muay Thai: Muay Thai means unarmed combat and is one of the most effective forms of martial arts in the world. Muay Thai combines fast and powerful striking techniques with kicks, knees, elbows and punching. It is a fantastic was to get fit, lose weight, build confidence, improve muscle tone and offers fantastic self-defence techniques. During our one hour session you will take part in 3 minute rounds of non-stop pad work and action. This class is suitable for every level of fitness, you set your goal and we will help get you there! Traditional Chen Tai Chi: Classes focus on foundation ‘silk-reeling’ exercises, standing meditation and the 18 moment (short) form. Chen Style Tai Chi is characterised by slow movements, jumps, kicks and strikes expressed through spiralling movements of the upper body, waist and legs. Regular practice can help develop strength and agility with long term practice proven to have numerous health benefits. Martyn has been a long term student of Grand Master Wang Hai Jun, traditionally trained in Chen Village by Grand Master Chen Zheng Lei.
