Junior Y Junior Y Club takes over the sports hall between 10am and 12noon every Saturday and is open to children of all ages. We offer 5 a side football, badminton and table tennis for older children and soft play, a ball pool and arts and crafts for younger children. Between 12noon and 1pm every Saturday kids rule the pool! We have floats, flippers and lots of games. Children over the age of 8 can be left under the supervision of a lifeguard trained member of staff during the fun swim. However the child must be able to swim to a satisfactory level. The Manchester "Wildcats" Freestyle Wrestling Club formerly known as the Manchester YMCA Wrestling Club was formed in 1912 and became a founding affiliate of the then British Wrestling Association. Since that time they have trained many hundreds of individuals in the art of freestyle wrestling and produced and hosted champion wrestlers along the way. Freestyle Wrestling is an ideal sport for youngsters as it caters for their natural wish to "fight" sometimes regardless of gender. Manchester "Wildcats" provides a safe, clean and discliplined environment to channel this natural energy into a sport that has clear goals and rewards at the level of both the amateur sportsman and woman. However people, regardless of gender, age, size and physical ability are drawn to wrestling for the simple reason that it is fun. The sport provides the opportunity for learning and accepting discipline with the result of both a strengthening of the body and the mind. Our Club has a tuition and practice programme designed to cater for the needs of the novice wrestler, those with intermediate skills through to the more advanced wrestler. Wherever possible, junior members are encouraged to participate in regional, national and international events. The “Wildcats” also help with the take-up of the sport in schools through the British Wrestling Association's "Grassroots" programme. Junior wrestling classes take place on Monday’s 5.15pm-6.30pm, Wednesday’s 5.15pm-6.15pm and Saturday mornings 11am-12.45pm. Judo is a hand-to-hand combat class. In Japanese it means ‘The Gentle Way’ and is an ancient art of the Samurai warriors. Children and young people have the opportunity to compete for the Manchester YMCA Premier Judo Club regionally and nationally. Junior judo takes place on Saturday mornings 9.30am-11am. Trampolining classes are based on the British Trampolining Federation (BTF) scheme. Classes cover all the core skills and basic moves necessary for the development of good trampoline techniques. Trampolining takes place on Wednesday evenings 4.30pm till 5.30pm and Saturday’s 2pm-3pm. Learn the different breakdancing styles with our dance instructor. Breakdance takes place on Saturday’s 1pm-2pm. Please be aware that in line with Child Protection and Health and Safety policy the Y Club requires parents or guardians over 18 years old to directly supervise children under the age of 16 at all times: the only exception being attendance at the junior activities. These activities are highlighted in yellow on the Y Club timetable. During junior activities we require parents or guardians to directly supervise children under the age of 8 years. Children between the ages of 8 and 14 years may be left unaccompanied, but parents/guardians MUST remain on the premises. Children between the ages of 14 and 16 years can attend junior activities without parental supervision but we require a signed parental consent form on record. We advise that parents attend with a child between the age of 14 and 16 years on their first visit to the Y Club to complete the parental consent form. Children under the age of 16 will not be permitted entry to the club without a parental consent form and/or at times outside of junior activities. Children under the age of 16 are NOT permitted in the fitness room, free weights area, sauna, steam room or to take part in adult classes at any time and must be supervised in the pool, sports hall and studio at all other times.
